Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

Broadly speaking, at the end of this subject, students are able to understand the macroeconomic environment for companies and society alike. Also related is the understanding of the actions of the government using economic policy.

Specific objectives:
• Identify the GDP components and GDP impact on the functioning of the economy;
• Understand the role of money and the functions of the Central Bank;
• Show the importance of the economic framework to the company;
• Analyse the impacts of macroeconomic factors on the performance of the company;
• Understand the evolution of the Portuguese economy and its external competitiveness;
• Understand both globalization and regionalism of the world economy.

• Consumption, Savings, and Disposable Income

Teaching methodologies

• Theoretical lessons: Both expository and interrogative methods are combined to the learning of the theoretical and conceptual macroeconomic framework.
• Practical lessons: Debate based on small news from media, reports, case studies, among others to consolidate theoretical and conceptual knowledge.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

Continuous assessment:
• Two Individual Tests, open-book (T1 and T2): weight to final grade of 30% each;
• Participation in practical lessons/Work Group (WG) composed by the analysis and discussion of small news from media, reports and case studies in groups: weight to final grade of 40%;

Final Grade = 30% x T1 + 30% x T2 + 40% x PPL

For approval students need a final grade equal or higher than 10 from a scale 0-20.

Final assessment:
• One Individual Exam, open-book (Ex)

Recourse Exam:
Available for students who fail either Continuous assessment or Final assessment (i.e. final grade lower than 10).
The evaluation is equal to Final assessment with Ex abbreviating Recourse Exam.
