Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

This curricular unit intends to present the methods and techniques of information systems analysis and design, developing activities and model's creation for the analysis phases and design according to the systems development life cycle, using recognized standards and frameworks.
- To demonstrate knowledge about systems analysis importance in the activities related with information systems suitability to the organizations business strategy;
- To demonstrate the use ability of the techniques for the requirements specification and functional modeling;
- To demonstrate the analytical and design skills of an Information Systems through modeling techniques;
- Using systems modeling software, object-oriented, to design and develop systems.
Aims to contribute to enhance of the logical reasoning; increase the abstraction capacity for a problem solving, critical thinking and develop, plan, design and implement solutions for the an organizational problems resolution.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

The curricular unit of Analysis and Design of Information Systems intend to introduce the methods and techniques of analysis and Information Systems design, adjusting them to support the organizational activities.
Thus, it is considered as a fundamental the understanding of the importance of the systems analysis in the systems development process; the analysis and design of an information system make use of the modeling techniques; and also the knowledge and use of systems modeling object-oriented software for design and development of an Information Systems.

Teaching methodologies

The teaching methods used:
- Exposit methods;
- Exploratory strategies in order to:
- Laboratory Method (learning by individual discovery of specific software);
- Use of the simulation in order to place the student at the teaching /learning centre;
- Thereby bring closer the theoretical and practical requirements of the real labour market.
Theoretical components are taught using a combination the exposit in (concepts) and participatory methods.
In practical components the participative approach and problem is used, solving in a cooperative learning strategy.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

The lecture method to introduce the fundamental theoretical concepts related to planning and development of Information Systems, so that students can recognize the importance of Analysis and Information System Design in the process of developing Information Systems.
The use of the method active / participatory allows reflection on the different aspects of requirements specification, the modeling and the information system description in an organizational context, and through the specific software usage (CASE tool), to modeling and development of Information Systems, intends the skills development to apply the knowing-doing.These methods are also used for reflection and discussion of examples in order to encourage interactivity and trying to relate to real situations.
With group work looking up the development of relational skills, capacity for analysis and communication of information, creativity, the ability to understand the information requirements necessary for the development of Information Systems, the ability to define data, information and processes relevant to solving the problem, the ability to modeling and design the Information Systems to improve organizational performance, through the application of theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the classroom.

Assessment methodologies and evidences

The continuous assessment includes:
- One individual written test (25%);
- A report with the requirements specification according the Practical Work theme (25%);
- A Practical Work made in Group with an individual discussion (50%).
The final assessment consists in an individual written exam and individual work.
