Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

The program of this Course aims to develop a broad perspective of the diversity of social contexts in which family systems are located and knowledge of measures, models, actions, rights and techniques to support the family, with the following main objectives:
- Understand the importance of human rights and locate them historically and nowadays, identifying those that concern the family;
- Understand and discuss the concept of basic living necessities and social well-being;
- Distinguishing the different perspectives of Social Action including its relation with Social Policies;
- To know the bases of the State of Providence and its importance in face of social exclusion;
- Distinguish what is meant by poverty, deprivation and social exclusion, equality and equity;
- Identify, within the framework of state social policies, those that concern the family, realizing which governing entities intervene on the issues of the family;
- To know the systems of social protection to the family;
- Identify and differentiate the different social responses supported by Social Security, as well as the rules that govern them;
- Identify in social organizations the answers to the family supported by Social Security;
- Relate the different social responses to the age groups of greater social vulnerability;
- Understand the problems of social dependence and consider ways to overcome them;
- To contextualize the systemic approach of the Family and the Ecological Model of Human Development in contemporary families;
- Develop strategies for characterization, intervention and family follow-up.


In compliance with article 6 of Decree-Law no. 43/2014, of March 18, the description of the competencies referent is organized according to the domains: knowledge, skills and attitudes.

KNOWLEDGE
C1 Knowledge of the historical evolution of the different models of Social Action;
C2 Knowledge of the systems and areas of social protection to the family;
C3 Knowledge of family social intervention within the systemic and ecological approach of the person and the family;
C4 Knowledge of techniques and devices for characterization and family intervention.

SKILLS
AP1 Analyze and identify social support to the family in the close and extended community;
AP2 Reflect on the current family institution and its main problems;
AP3 To characterize and analyze the resources of the family in face of their needs of social inclusion;
AP4 To develop adequate responses of mediation and accompaniment of families;
AP5 To mobilize and relate knowledge acquired in other curricular units in the understanding and use of the contents of this UC.

ATTITUDES
AT1 Evidence of autonomy and empathy in communication with family and social action services;
AT2 Demonstrate ability to articulate the different means, measures and social policies in an integrated and assertive response to the problems identified in the family;
AT3 Evidence of an educational and community perspective in the recognition of social rights and intervention with families.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

The contents presented promote a global vision of the various measures and social policies to support the family, as well as the basic information necessary to understand the family system in light of current problems, allowing to achieve the objectives of this unit in an integrated way.

Teaching methodologies

The management of the program of this UC and its entire study and learning process will be developed through active and participatory methods:
- Analysis and interpretation of documents - research articles, press articles, photographs, artistic representations of the family, films and documentaries;
- Written production of small texts of critical recension;
- Dramatic play and role-playing;
- Case study;
- Interpretation and construction of family analysis and assessment tools;
- Circle of studies and debate in small and large group;
- Ideas and interventionist research fair;
- Descriptive research (quantitative and qualitative);
- Creation of PIAF (Individual Family Support Plan)
- Seminar on programs and practices aimed at family well-being

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

Taking into account the object of study of this CU, active and participatory methods are used that allow the student to situate themselves in a more experiential way in their learning process, in a constant dialogue between their reality and a more macroscopic perspective of the phenomena studied. The pedagogy of discovery techniques and the articulation between the individual work, of small group and of a large group, also offer a dynamic and interactive approach to the topics addressed.

- Creation and presentation of PIAF with proposal of family intervention based on case study: Group, 40%

Attendance system

It is expected that each student is at least 75% of the sessions to review and discuss the proposed texts and perform the evaluation products in close relationship with teachers, except the students with special status (article 24 of the RFA).
