Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

Know and apply the fundamentals and general notions about physical fitness.
Knowing the risk behaviors and identify the characteristic symptoms of the pathologies associated with professional activity.
Reveal skills of self-assessment and regulation of physical fitness, of physical activity, and postural education, related to the professional occupation.

Syllabus

1. Conceptualization: concept and different dimensions of physical fitness
- Determinants of physical fitness;
- The effects of physical inactivity on health;
- The benefits of regular physical activity.

2. Considerations about backbone and posture:
- Strategies for backbone protection;
- Correction of gestures and attitudes of everyday life;
- The self-assessment of posture.

3. Physical fitness and professional occupation:
- Demand features of professional activity in terms of: Attention, perception, information processing and informational overload;
- Motor coordination (inter-limb and eye-hand);
- Funcional significance of synaptic and muscle fatigue;
- Posture at workplace (postural and gestural control);
- Musculoskeletal disorders and workplace (e. g. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome).

PRACTICAL COMPONENT

5. Recreational playful activities.


Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

The selected content intend the development of skills that permit on one hand an appropriate level of physical activity with a health-related perspective, and on the other hand, the maintenance of the fitness levels adjusted to the demands of professional occupation, reducing the risk of diseases.

Teaching methodologies

The sessions will focus on the exposure of the subject by the teacher, reading, discussion and analysis of texts and practical experience in the context of physical activity.
The e-learning Moodle platform http://moodle.ips.pt/ese is used to enable the realization of theoretical and practical activities that allow the interaction between the teacher and the students, and between students.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

The theoretical, theoretical-practical and pratical activities, envisage the acquisition of skills of theoretical and practical framework related to the teaching content.
Aimed the development of skills that allow the student to look for: an adequate level of performance in physical activities, minimize the risk factors associated with the occupation, and the early recognition of symptoms associated with skeletal muscle disorders related to workplace.

Assessment methodologies and evidences

Assessement componets:
Process (35%): It is expressed by the student performance embodied with a participatory and committed attitude in the different tasks developed in the classroom, in the capacity of understanding, analysis and reflection of the syllabus:
ATTENDANCE: 5%
WORK SHEETS (individual): 30%

Product (65%): Results of student performance on 2 products to be carried out during the semester:

Theoretical test (individual): 40%
WORK / PRESENTATION (group): 25%

The sum of the weighted values of component 1 and component 2 defines the classification assigned on a scale of 0 to 20.

Attendance system

It is expected that each student be present, at least, in 70% of the lectures.
