Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

Portuguese Sign Language.

This course aims to create the conditions for carrying out projects that deal with the most significant areas that have been worked on during the course. This piece of work will be developed and enriched throughout the academic year and students can use an informative, formative or playful approach, but the work must fall within the scope of Portuguese Sign Language. The course prepares students for the construction of a project in LGP with video or multimedia visual support. The project must be accompanied by a descriptive written text, based on knowledge acquired through exploration, through academic research and empirical work, on a theme which is relevant for a Translator Interpreter of Portuguese Sign Language.

Syllabus

Guidance, advice and supervision for the implementation of a final year project that deals with one or more of the most significant issues addressed during the course.


Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

Comprehensive understanding of the fundamental steps needed to undertake academic research and learn how to collect empirical work; know how to analyze, select and synthesize diverse information appropriate for the theme chosen for the project; how to construct a final product which is of interest to the deaf community and academia.

Teaching methodologies

of the most significant issues addressed during the course.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

The exploration of materials and analysis of documents as well as the promotion of research is
accompanied by a debate and discussion around the different themes. This will help the students to select important information and data for the creation and enrichment of their individual projects so that they can complete the final product.

Assessment methodologies and evidences

The evaluation is focused on the end product which is in LGP with visual support. There will be three
periods of assessment, two intermediate and one final: 1st period - theme of the presentation indicating the topics and a provisional structure (in writing and LGP) - 10% of the final grade; 2nd period - presentation of the project in development at an advanced stage (visual support in LGP and written script outline) - 20% of the final grade ; 3rd period - presenting and defending the final piece of work (in visual support in LGP and written script) - 70% of the final grade.
