Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)
This Unit wants students to have a more near approach to the understanding of History as a a fundamental part of the personal and social development. They must read, understand and criticize different sources of information and they have to see its importance for the pupils in the primary and 2nd. Cycle classes
Syllabus
In this Unit contents in the area of the national History and Geography are organized in 3 different areas: the organization and occupation of the land; the construction of a Kingdom and the building of an “empire”. This Unit “ends” near 1640 because the next year students have the 2nd part of this Unit where they will study their country from that moment till the present.

With this contents we want the students to be able to teach the paedagogical areas of History and Geography in primary and 2nd Cycle. The aim is to build a historical and geographical knwoledge in an integrated and coherent way.
Teaching methodologies
Sessions based on theory, whith support in powerpoint slides; discussion of work done by the students; reading, discussion of documents, both about theory and paedagogical issues; research work oriented by the teacher in order to organize brief work group or individual products to be presented to the teacher and colleagues.
Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes
The sistematic presentation of theoretical informations about the itens in discussion is able to prepare students for the lifelong importance of scientific accuracy; the use of different documents (in origin and ideas) is used in order to give the students the perception of the difficulties and of all the possible perspectives to see the same problem; students have to deal with historical concepts, to be able to discuss all the possible interpretations of the same issue, to be able to recognize all the different contexts they can work in. The final test is used to identify the core concepts they have to deal with.
Assessment methodologies and evidences
For final evaluation each student must write a small paper/essay (50%), to work in classes (25%) and to answer a final theory writen test (25%).
Attendance system
Students have to attend 75% of the classes.
