Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

PROGRAM (CHANGED COVID19)

Learning objectives (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by students)
- Provide students with basic knowledge about the sound phenomenon, its origin, propagation, capture and editing;
- Enable students to perform simple audio works, mastering the essential digital equipment so that they can use this knowledge in the multiple areas of audiovisual;
- Manage and select appropriate techniques and technologies for each type of sound editing;
- Sequencing and edit audio using the appropriate techniques and technologies.

Syllabus

Syllabus
- The sound (origin and graphic representation);
- Sound properties and characteristics (frequency, intensity, timbre and duration);
- Audacity recording and editing software: editing and processing sound sources (equalization, compression, gain, filters); sequencing and overlapping of sound materials; environments and special effects, mixing and mastering).

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

- As a Course Unit included in the study plan for training professionals in the area of social communication, it aims to contribute to the understanding of audio products as critical elements in view of the involvement and provide an understanding of some of the main aspects to consider in the production of áudio nature materials.
- The programmatic contents are designed to acquire skills in sound techniques that allow a better integration of these tools in audio handling in the media.
- The progression in the content approach allows students to understand the importance of sound techniques, so that they can create audio products that clearly and rigorously transmit a communication product.

Teaching methodologies

The sessions will be centered on the moodle and teams platforms in plenary and / or small groups based on information provided directly by the teacher or using different materials. The process will comprise:
- Hearing and analysis of audio excerpts;
- Manipulation of different audio editing tools in the Audacity Software;
- Development of different individual audio products;
- Realization of two individual audio products;

Student participation
Each student is expected to:
(a) participate, in the agreed platforms, in the discussion of the issues under analysis, as well as in the proposed works;
(b) read, visualize, analyze and be prepared to discuss the supporting materials presented;
(c) execute the scheduled jobs.
It is expected that students with worker-student status or other special statuses, who may not be present at the scheduled sessions, will inform teachers of this status in the first fifteen days of classes.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

- A strong UC component is related to the theory of sound, by explaining its physical, physiological and psychological component, so that students are able to understand the phenomena related to acoustics.
- The practical component intends to enable students to handle basic sound equipment, thus internalizing theoretical knowledge and developing the technical sensitivity necessary to perform audio works for different media.

Assessment methodologies and evidences

The work developed at UC will be subject to:
I) Formative Evaluation (process) 40%
- Participation in the theoretical-practical components of audio;
- Online discussion of the proposed topics;
- Conducting, presenting and discussing individual audio experiences;
II) Summative Assessment - 60%
- Final audio product 1 - 20%
- Final audio product 2 with written reflection - 40%.

In case of impossibility to participate in the evaluation moments, the evaluation will be carried out by exam on a date to be defined by the Board (except students with special status, see point 9).

Assessment
The final evaluation of the UC will be posted on the ESE / IPS portal on a date according to the academic calendar, resulting from the partial evaluations described above, attributed on a scale of 0 to 20 points.

The evaluation of the UC is governed by the Regulation of Frequency and Evaluation (RFA) of the ESE / IPS, which can be continuous or periodic, always with the possibility of a final exam, except the UC of Internship.
Taking into account the specificity of the training and the high percentage of UC of technical training, students' attendance is governed by a minimum of 75% of attendance at UCs, except for students with special status (Article 24 of the RFA).

Attendance system

The approval of this UC is subject to compliance with the following requirements:
- Students with special status and who are unable to regularly attend the UC may be assessed on a continuous assessment basis, after negotiation with its teachers. This negotiation may result in the definition of elements and moments of evaluation different from those exposed in this program.
- Students with normal status who do not pass the evaluation or do not attend the UC, will be evaluated by exam (on all the contents exposed in this program), to occur on a date to be defined by the Board of ESE / IPS.

Observations

The exam will last two hours and consists of:
- Component 1 (40%) - written test on the contents covered in class and exposed in this program, lasting 1 hour.
- Component 2 (60%) - presentation (20 minutes) and oral discussion (40 minutes) of audio product on the day of the exam.

The product will be made by the student at the ESE / IPS facilities, by means of a statement provided by the teacher, on a date prior to the exam. The product will be made in a period of 2 days, using equipment provided by ESE / IPS.
