This Course aims to sensitize students to the importance of photography in society in general and the media in
particular. Knowing the origins and evolution of photography, composition and aesthetics, through mastery of different
equipment and techniques and the domain of editing photographic image programs are goals that we seek promoting in
students.

knowledge of basic photographic technique
Apply
knowledge of basic laboratory analog photography, black and white
Identify
and adopt rules of photographic composition
Understand
basics of photo editing
Select
photos and organize a photographic portfolio

Syllabus

6.2.1.5. Syllabus:
Approaches to the history of photography, the different processes and their protagonists. Practical demonstration of the
different components of a camera and its relationship to obtain photographs technically appropriate. The importance of
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the construction of the photographic process. Acquisition and mastery of
laboratory techniques for analog photography, black and white. Viewing, reflection and production of photographic work
that lead to a better understanding of the basic rules of photographic composition. Identification of stylistic currents in
order to create more reflective habits and attitudes.. Exploration of appropriate programs for photo editing. The thematic
portfolios of photographs and their requirements regarding the selection and organization of spatial images.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

6.2.1.6. Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives.
To achieve the first goal, articulately crosses up the historical evolution of photographic processes of more significant
inventors .
On the second goal, in the presence of different cameras, demonstrate the functions and exercise the different joints of
the essential components of a camera.
On the third goal, identifies the elements that constitute a laboratory analogue photography.
In the fourth goal to address issues which concern the composition of the photographic image, stylistic currents and
problems which concern creativity and originality.
Image editing with computer tools will be essential to our fifth objective.
In the sixth goal it is proposed that students perform a selection of his photographs to include in the portfólio.

Teaching methodologies

6.2.1.7. Teaching methodologies
During the working sessions will be performed: lectures with large group; practical classes abroad, in the laboratory and
in the studio with the large group; practical demonstrations of different equipment; screenings of videos and
photographs with different approaches to photographic technique and aesthetics and monitoring and discussion of
individual productions of each student.
Assessment and classification
The elements under evaluation are relate to the objectives of the course and must demonstrate the skills that students
have acquired: photographic technique; laboratory technique, creativity and originality in photographic composition,
meeting deadlines, parts required in the portfolio and the levels of involvement in Course, organization and presentation
of photographic portfolio.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

6.2.1.8. Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes.
The diversity of methodologies used in lectures and practices, as well as the variety of resources available to facilitate
students learning.
For a discussion of historical aspects are used different visual media such as videos, photographs, old machines and
contact with various photographic works of major authors, followed by a debate.
The sessions, abroad and in the studio as well as at individual statements are fundamental to the consolidation of
knowledge and are critical to the assimilation of knowledge of basic photographic techniques.
The general statements and individual exemplifications in the photo lab allow the students an suitable appropriation of
knowledge as well as knowledge of the proper functioning of a darkroom analog photography, black and white.
Raising awareness of the issues which relate the photographic composition are introduced from watching videos and
images of specialists, demonstrating the different options. In individual monitoring of student work is made a reflection
about the technical and aesthetic issues.
With different image editing programs, students attend projections of procedures best suited to the intervention of each
photographic image. The procedures best suited for various purposes for which the images are intended, what should
be avoided in the images and the particularities of the different programs, are the main concerns to be taken into
account.
The last objective is related to competence in choosing and organizing a photographic portfolio. This is achieved by
monitoring each individual student in choosing the photos and organizing the portfolio. Initially presented several studies
of gender (usually colleagues from previous years) and at that time, explained the reasons why some options are more
appropriate than others.
