The Physiotherapy undergraduate degree aims to graduate physiotherapists with a strong technical and scientific competence as well as a humanistic profile, who are able to implement an autonomous and reflexive practice and provide patient centred care. Physiotherapists graduated at the School of Health Care/Polytechnic Institute of Setubal (ESS-IPS) are distinguishable by their quality, professional ability and ethics, which enable them to develop their activity in different contexts of professional practice, to actively work in multidisciplinary teams, and to be effective agents of change in health care. Along with, these professionals are committed with the professional values, assuring the quality of care and the standards of physiotherapy, as well as the development of the profession and their continuous personal and professional growing.

The Bachelor of Honours in Physiotherapy (BHPT) is a full time four-year undergraduate degree (240 ECTS). It is a fully integrated curriculum and includes interdisciplinary studies. From semester one, the curriculum is structured around case-based learning, where students have the opportunity to learn collaboratively through paper and real professional scenarios during tutorials. Conditions, for which people typically seek physiotherapy, provide the context for integrating knowledge of biomedical and behavioural sciences, physiotherapy skills, principles of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning, ethical and professional behaviours that are necessary to function competently as a physiotherapist.. The course focus progressively moves from campus-based patient scenarios to learning in a clinical environment. This provides opportunities for students to realize the relevance of on-going learning in the context of supervised healthcare delivery and to develop the skills to function autonomously as primary contact health care practitioners in a range of contexts.
