Objectives, competences and learning Outcomes
At the end of this unit the student must demonstrate: knowledge and understanding about: terminology and biomechanical concepts related to kinesiology; Newton’s laws of motion; Forces, torques and musculoskeletal levers; Basic structure and function of human joints; Basic functional aspects of the skeletal muscle - muscle as the primer stabilizer and mobilizer of the skeletal system; Muscle and Joint interaction; Posture and balance; Motor control and joint stabilization; joint mechanics and functional anatomy of the upper extremity: shoulder complex, elbow and forearm, wrist and hand. Student must also demonstrate ability to perform a description and analysis of normal human movement and posture, using professional terminology.

Basic functional aspects of the skeletal muscle - muscle as the primer stabilizer and mobilizer of the skeletal system;

Joint mechanics and functional anatomy of the upper extremity: shoulder complex, elbow and forearm, wrist and hand.
Introduction to qualitative description and analysis of human movement;
Teaching and Learning Strategies
A number of different teaching methods are employed during the delivery of Human Movement Studies. These include lectures and practical sessions that are supported by student own independent study. Most of the theoretical sessions have associated slide presentations and reading material, which are posted on Moodle e-learning platform. In practical sessions it’s expected that the student take an active role, putting into practice the movement analysis skills. Students use each other as models and benefit from practicing with as many different people as possible to gain experience.
Type of assessment
Assessment
Human Movement Studies is assessed through two written tests and an interactive practical evaluation. For the successful completion of this unit, the student must have 9.5/20 in each of the assessment activities. The weighting of these components is as follows: First written Test – 30% + Second written Test – 30% + Practical exam – 40%. The written test is a 90-minute unseen paper consisting only of multiple choice questions. The practical evaluation includes a qualitative description and analysis of a daily activity.

Special assessment (Working Students, etc):
For working students (with registered status) or any other students with special status, assessment is regulated in the Academic Regulation, approved by the Educational Committee and the Director of the ESS-IPS.
Grade improvement
With the purpose of grade improving, the students must follow the academic regulation, approved by the Educational Committee and the Director of the ESS-IPS.
