Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)
This course intends to develop knowledge and scientific, technical and human skills that aim to approach the child
/youth and family throughout their life cycle, in a perspective of care providing in response to the growth and
development processes and the maximizing of their health.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
It is intended that the student can:
- Assist the child / youth and families in the maximization of their health
- Promote the growth and development of child/youth
- Implement and manage a health plan that promotes parenthood and health
- Early diagnose and intervention on common diseases and risk conditions affecting life/quality of life of the
child/youth
- Provide specific care throughout the life cycle and development of the child /youth.
Syllabus
The contents are related to and result from the knowledge, skills and competences that were acquired during the
theoretical component of the course and the respective development of these skills.
In the context of clinical education, the student should intervene with the child/youth and family, keeping in mind
their individual projects, in a perspective of health monitoring and promotion throughout the life cycle.
Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes
This traineeship is carried out in health centres or similar institutions and aims to achieve the objectives through
the development of knowledge and skills directed to processes of care providing to the child /youth and family in a
perspective of health monitoring and promotion and education for health.
Teaching methodologies
The methodologies to adopt aim to develop skills that promote the care of the child/ youth and family in the
maximization of their health throughout their cycle of growth and development.
The internship will be developed preferentially in Health Centers and Hospital pediatric consultations, with clinical
supervision by nurses specialized in Child health and Pediatrics.
According to the student’s preference, this internship can be developed in Centers for Cerebral Palsy/CERCI,
Programs or Intervention Projects or others
Individual continuous assessment. Realization of a project / internship report
The student is considered approved if he obtains a grade equal to or higher than 10.
Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes
It is intended that the student is involved in the teaching and learning process, enabling him to intervene in the
development of processes of care providing to the child /youth and family throughout the growth and development
cycle, in order to maximize their health, in a logic of advanced nursing.
This methodology allows the student to be acquainted with the most common situations when the child/youth and
family resort to health centres or other similar contexts, providing them with reflexion on practice based on
acquired knowledge and scientific evidence.
