Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

At the end of the course the / a student must:
1. Demonstrate theoretical knowledge about human communication processes
2. Identify and understand the main psychosocial factors that influence communication processes
3. Demonstrate skills to identify the importance of the adequacy of verbal and non-verbal communication in the context of health relations

Syllabus

1. Communication: framework of its overall dimensions
2. Self in communication processes: identity and knowledge of self
3. The Self and the Other in the communication process: the influence of psychosocial dimensions
4. Verbal communication and nonverbal factors: communication styles and role of non-verbal communication dimensions
5. The interview in health communication: verbal and non-verbal aspects
6. Effective communication: the role of feedback
7. Communication in health relations

Teaching methodologies

Lectures in which will prevail the expository method, supplemented with discussion group sessions, use of teaching aids that promote learning and understanding of theoretical concepts, solving practical cases and role-play situations that promote the application of the concepts explored

Assessment methodologies and evidences

A theoretical test divided into two parts: Part 1 comprises 50% of the theoretical contents (to be held at the end of module 3); Part 2 includes 50% of the syllabus (to be held at the end of Module 4).In continuous assessment, the final grade is composed of the arithmetic average of the two parts of the evaluation, requiring a minimum of 9.5 in each.
In the final exam:
a) In situations where the classification of a test is less than 9.5, the student will carry out a test that will cover the contents of the respective module;
b) In cases where the classification testing is less than 9.5, the student will carry out a test that will cover the contents of both modules;
c) In situations where the student does not perform a test, perform a test that will cover the contents of both modules.
In both modes (continuous and examination evaluation), the approval will be obtained with a grade equal to or greater than 10.
