Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

It is intended that at the end of this course the student is able to:
• Relate psychosocial phenomena in health organizations with the levels of individual and collective
performance, service quality and user satisfaction;
• Identify psychosocial phenomena in organizations that stand out in terms of motivation and job
satisfaction, leadership, interpersonal and intergroup conflict, climate and organizational culture.

Syllabus

1. The specificity of psychosocial perspective and its application to the organizational context.
2. The link between individual behaviour, identities and inter-group relations in health organizations.
3. Theories and organizational structures.
4. Climate, culture and organizational change
5. Emergency and conflict management in organizations. Communication and conflict negotiation
strategies.
6. Power and leadership and communication styles in organizations.
7. Motivation and job satisfaction. Psychological contract.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

The syllabus is oriented as the objectives for the integration and coordination of individual, group and
organizational levels of analysis, linking them to the specific contexts of health and professional
application. Therefore, the contents are focused on understanding the factors affecting relationships and
professional’s involvement, satisfaction and performance.

Teaching methodologies

The teaching methods are: theoretical sessions, in which they use the lecture method, discussion in large
group, small group work, experimentation sessions, testing and evaluation of pedagogical strategies of
group work and communication.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

This is a CU with a theoretical and practical nature, which provides tools that facilitate understanding of
individual and group dimensions of organizational behavior, as well as the essential rudiments of health
management. In addition to the theoretical exposition, practical activities will be proposed, to apply the
concepts and theories. Direct contact with a professional for exploration of topics covered in the CU will
provide a link between the theoretical and empirical dimensions of analysis and organizational
experiences.

Assessment methodologies and evidences

Continuous evaluation will be conducted through a written test (60%) and elaboration in group of practical
work (40%), being mandatory to obtain at least 9.5 (on a scale 0-20). By choice or in the case of failure in
continuous evaluation, the student will hold a final written test.
