Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)
The course aims to enable students with advanced level knowledge and skills of advanced level in the field of
Nursing of Child Health and Paediatrics Nursing, enabling him to respond effectively to the demands and needs of
the child / young person youth throughout their life cycle, promoting and maximizing their health.
It is intended for the student to:
- Develop knowledge about the process of growth and development of the child/youth
- Recognize the binomial child/family, considering the specificities related to empowerment and maximizing health
- Favour family-centred care, considering the promotion and maintenance of the health of the child/youth
- Understand the influence of lifestyles on the health of the child /youth, framed in the different phases of the
individual and family life cycle.
- Think critically and constructively about the context of the growth and development of the child/youth, assessing
and developing processes to promote healthy lifestyles.

The presented syllabus was selected and sequenced in conjunction with defined objectives and competencies to
be developed, which are reflected in the expected learning outcomes.
It is intended that students acquire advanced level knowledge and skills, and simultaneously develop critical and
reflective thinking about the importance of the evolution and consolidation of knowledge in Child Health and
Paediatrics Nursing, particularly in terms of growth and development processes and in the maximization of the
health of the child/youth and family in the course of the individual and family life cycle.
Understanding the influence of lifestyles on the health of the child/youth will allow the identification and
mobilization of the necessary resources, promoting responsible parenting and the progressive empowerment of the
child/youth in taking their roles in health.
Teaching methodologies
The expository method, oriented research, debate and interpretation/use of results of scientific evidence about the
development of Child Health and Pediatrics nursing knowledge, individual and/or group work and the organization
of workshops, will allow the student to develop the aforementioned skills, simultaneously stimulating their critical
and reflective thinking.
Tutorials for student support in the monitoring and development of their course teaching/learning will take place.

In this Course, with the implementation of the recommended methodologies, we intend to develop a process of
teaching/learning that encourages student reflection and critical analysis, valuing processes of cognitive nature
and interpersonal communication, in order to actively engage students in the seeking and deepening of knowledge
resulting from scientific evidence, particularly in the area of Child Health and Paediatric Nursing.
The teaching methodologies will be mainly interactive, scheduled in conjunction with the curriculum content and
the expected learning outcomes. Each student being co-responsible for their learning, it is expected an active and
engaged participation throughout their formation process.
Thus, opportunities for reflection and individual and group discussion will be provided, resorting to techniques of
group work, guided reading, discussion and workshop organization.
Assessment methodologies and evidences
The continuous assessment will consist of a thematic review article, prepared individually or in group, with oral
presentation and discussion in the classroom, according to criteria to be agreed in advance with the students.
The final classification will result from the average of the marks obtained in both (written work and
presentation/discussion) assessment time points.
