Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

Seeks to acquire and develop knowledge and skills that contribute to the identification of the object in Nursing and Psychiatric Mental Health.
As learning outcomes it is expected that the student:
a) Know different conceptualizations of mental health nursing and psychiatric
b) Understand the uniqueness of the study object
c) Discuss and evaluate the ontological and theoretical understandings of mental health and psychiatric nursing;
d) Reflect critically on organizational and contextual realities of mental health

Syllabus

1. Mental Health and life span.
2. Theories in Mental Health.
3. Historical perspective of mental health and psychiatric nursing
4. Ontological and theoretical understandings of mental health and psychiatric nursing
5. Human answers in mental health
6. Discussion of existing conceptualizations
7. National Network and organization of mental health services.
8 . Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Persons with mental disorder: legislation and ethical dimensions. National and European updates.
9. General approach of the specialist nurse competences.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

In order to meet various conceptualizations of mental health nursing and psychiatric competing points 2., 5, and 6 of the contents. For the purpose of understanding the uniqueness of the object of study, the points 1., 3., And 6 support contents as the organizational and ethical-legal dimensions, and the competences profile of nurse specialist. For the purpose of discussing and evaluating ontological and theoretical understandings, whether competing in 6. Either all past. And in relation to critically reflect on the organizational and contextual realities of mental health, highlights the contributions of content 7., And 8. Contents were planned so that they meet learning objectives.

Teaching methodologies

The teaching-learning methodologies include theoretical exposition, analysis of texts and reflective discussion. Focused on the students and are predominantly active and participatory, with debate and argumentation.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

The initial understanding of mental health nursing requires that they be presented and discussed various conceptualizations of psychiatric nursing and mental health, based on the theories, the human responses in different ontological and theoretical understandings. Having a central concern for the object or the focus of this specialized area, it is important that the student understands the uniqueness of the object of study, and opportunity, in class, to discuss, evaluate and discuss the ontological and theoretical understandings as well as organizational realities and contextual mental health in Portugal and Europe. Thus, the processes of teaching-learning and evaluation aimed at methodological support the learning outcomes.

Assessment methodologies and evidences
