Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

The aim of this curricular unit is to develop the epidemiological discipline and its main applications in Public Health and research. The students should demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental epidemiological principles and methods and skills to apply those principles and methods into the research context, namely in the health analysis and risk management, and in the planning and evaluation of programmed health interventions.

Syllabus

• Overview of methods and principles in Epidemiology.
• Critical reflection on the types of study and measuring strategy in epidemiology
• The concept of risk in Public Health
• Reflection on epidemiologic research, and relationship with other forms of research
• Critical analysis of epidemiological research publications – differences and similarities with other research approaches
• Applications of epidemiology in public health

The assessment Methods include a multiple choices written Test of 1-hour length (100%). To complete this curricular unit the students must have a classification of a minimum of 9,5 in the test.
