Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)
This curricular unit aims to extend students’ knowledge of the rheumatologic diseases. At the end of this unit, students should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the common rheumatologic syndromes, the principles of diagnosis and treatment, and knowledge and understanding of the potential impact of the rheumatologic disease at the personal, family and social levels.
Syllabus
• Brief reference to the history of Portuguese Rheumatology
• The importance of rheumatologic diseases in Public Health. Project ONDOR.
• The need for a multidisciplinary approach.
• Rheumatology: concept and basic terms
• Principles for the development of the clinical history and objective assessment, in the perspective of the physiotherapist.
• Main rheumatologic syndromes:
• Back pain
• Knee and Hip osteoarthritis
• Hand osteoarthritis
• Rheumatoid Arthritis
• Systemic Rheumatologic diseases.
• Ostheoporosis;
• Peri-articular Rheumatologic syndromes;
• Fybromialgia
• Therapeutic approach to the patient with rheumatologic disease;
• Critical presentation of clinical cases;

Assessment Methods includes:
• Multiple choice written Test of 1-hour length (100%).
To complete this curricular unit the students must have a classification of a minimum of 50% in the test.
