> Understanding the relevant concepts and theoretical principles of orthopedics and rheumatology to physiotherapy practice
> Understanding of the main orthopedics, traumatologic, musculoskeletal and rheumatology conditions to the physiotherapy practice, demonstrating knowledge of their influencing factors (e.g. age, gender, environment)
> Understanding of the most common medical and surgical interventions in the orthopedics, traumatologic, musculoskeletal and rheumatology conditions and their implications for physiotherapy clinical evaluation.
Syllabus
> General Principles of Bone Fractures: Epidemiology, Classifications, Process of the Bone Consolidation and their Common Complications (Pseudarthrosis, Avascular necrosis, malunion fractures, etc)
> General Principles of Orthopedics Interventions - Provisional Immobilization, Definitive Treatment (Bone Fractures Reduction, Casting and Splinting Techniques, Fixation Methods, and others)
> Fractures of the Upper and Lower Limb and the Most Common Procedures Interventions in Orthopedics
Pathology and Traumatology of the Upper and Lower Limb and the Most Common Procedures Interventions in Orthopedics
> Fundamentals in Rheumatology: Classification, Epidemiology of the Rheumatologic Diseases
> The Immune System and HLA System in Rheumatologic Diseases
> The Major Syndromes in Rheumatology: Locoregional Pain Syndromes , Articular Syndromes, Systemic Rheumatic Syndromes and Bone Syndromes
> General Treatment Principles of the Rheumatologic Diseases
Teaching methodologies
Theoretical classes focused in knowledge and understanding of the theoretical concepts and principles, using predominantly the expositive lecture method, supplemented by group discussion sessions and the use of other resources (e.g. videos) that promote learning and understanding of theoretical concepts.
Assessment methodologies and evidences
For approval in this unit, the student must have success (9,5/20) in an individual written assessment test with multiple choice questions. When the student does not have success, a new written assessment test is required at exam (normal or appeal).
