SyllabusThis unit aims to promote the development of clinical reasoning, understanding and contextualization of concepts / meanings / perspectives, the construction of sustained meanings and judgments in particular contexts in the area of care of older clients and those with neurological conditions. It also aims to promote, the problem solving skills, reflection on decision making and respective consequences, effective communication skills, time management, interdisciplinary work. This unit is based on the in depth analysis of clinical cases supported by tutorials meetings, which are intended to facilitate the learning process of students and promote collaborative learning through constructive discussions of the following topics:
Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomesIn this curricular unit it is intended that students demonstrate the ability to develop their clinical reasoning, supported by the understanding and contextualization of concepts and perspectives, and in the construction of meanings and sustained judgments, addressed in the various curricular units that take place simultaneously. It is also intended to develop the ability to solve problems and reflect on the decisions made, namely in the analysis of simulated or real clinical scenarios / cases, supported by the best clinical and scientific evidence. The scenarios / cases establish the relationship between the learning objectives and the syllabus covered in the course. These contents are addressed according to the organization of the tutorial meetings and respective learning objectives defined for them, thus ensuring their coherence. Teaching methodologiesThe teaching-learning strategies adopted in this curricular unit are based on a case-based learning approach, in which professional cases / tasks are the central structure for the development of expected skills. It includes tutorial meetings, with groups of 9 to 12 students, for the development of collaborative work, in addition to periods of autonomous work. Online tutorial meetings will be introduced, using digital platforms such as TEAMS or ZOOM, and other resources, whenever the development and acquisition of the curricular unit's skills is justified. Asynchronous online training activities are also contemplated. This UC also includes activities with users, observation visits in the context of intervention in users with neurological conditions and the use of real cases within the scope of the development of assessment and intervention skills in this area. Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomesThe dominant methodology in the course is case-based learning, a strategy that focuses student learning on the management of professional tasks, facilitating the integration of knowledge and understanding and the ability to solve problems. Learning aims to result from a process of analysis, interpretation and understanding of cases, stimulating the student's cognitive / intellectual, interpersonal and professional skills. The main objective is to privilege active learning and decision making by the latter. Thus, autonomous work is of great importance in learning. The hours of the Curricular Unit and its distribution throughout the module provide that the student may have the necessary time to develop technical knowledge and skills, both autonomously and in groups, supported in collaborative reasoning and accompanied by a tutoring teacher. . For the development of learning objectives, tutoring classes contribute, with group discussion and reflection, around a task / case that will be the central structure for the development of expected skills. It is intended to develop the ability to solve problems and reflect on the decisions made, in an active learning process on the part of the student. Assessment methodologies and evidencesThis Course Unit has a regime of exemption from final exam. To obtain approval, the student must obtain a minimum score of 9.5 out of 20 in the following assessment activities:
Attendance systemThe student cannot exceed 20% of absences in tutorial guidance classes (OT).
