Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)
At the end of the curricular unit, the students should be able to demonstrate:
Knowledge and understanding of:
the concept of mental health and the different pathologies included;
the physiotherapy intervention in people with mental health conditions;
the physiotherapy strategies in Mental Health and respective effectiveness;
Technical and Psychomotor Capacities in:
Assessing clients with mental health conditions;
Intervention with people with drug/alcohol addictions, as well as other mental health conditions
Differentiating the different relaxation techniques, and adequately select its application;
Using relaxation techniques to promote body awareness techniques and to promote relaxation
Syllabus
Mental Health: physiotherapy role in mental health; physiotherapy competences in mental health; psychopathology; Assessment in Mental Health; Intervention strategies in mental health
Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes
Theoretical lectures will be used, as well as presentation and discussion of photographs and films, group discussions and other activities; peer simulated practice.
Assessment methodologies and evidences
For the successful completion of this unit, the student must reach 9.5/20 in each of the following activities:

Individual practical evaluation
In case of unsuccessful performance in any of the activities, the student may complete them in the exam (normal or appeal). Only those who were not successful.
If the student did not hand in one of the activities, then he/she needs to hand ALL the activities of that module in Exam time.
The classification of this unit is calculated based on the weighed mean classifications obtained in each of the following activities:
Group work - 40%
Practical Evaluation (simulated) - 60%
In exam time (normal or appeal), the final classification will obey the following principle:
a. the activities which in term time were group activities, will have to be done individually.
Attendance system
Students must attend 80% of practical classes. For working students (with registered status) or any other students with special status, special assessment is regulated in the Academic Regulation, approved by the Educational Committe and the Director of the ESS-IPS.
