Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

a. Identify, name, describe and select instruments and procedures for assessing swallowing in neonates, children, adults and the elderly;
b. Plan and carry out the assessment of sucking, chewing, swallowing and feeding;
c. Handle instruments and materials for assessing sucking, chewing, swallowing and feeding;
d. Identify, name, describe and select approaches, methodologies and intervention techniques for swallowing and feeding in neonates, children, adults and the elderly.
e. Carry out intervention techniques, procedures and strategies in the field of swallowing and feeding.

Syllabus

1. Instruments and techniques for the clinical assessment of swallowing;
1.1 Techniques, procedures, strategies, materials related to the clinical assessment of swallowing, signs of aspiration, sucking, chewing and food selectivity;
2. Instruments and techniques for instrumental assessment of swallowing;
2.2 Techniques, procedures, strategies and materials related to the instrumental assessment of swallowing;
3. Approaches, methodologies and intervention techniques in swallowing and feeding.
3.1 Postural and compensatory swallowing maneuvers;
3.2 Approaches to feeding in neonates and infants;
3.3 Alternative feeding techniques to the oral feeding.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

The swallowing Instruments and Techniques course contributes to learning assessment and intervention techniques in the area of Deglutition. It allows students to make a practical application of the knowledge acquired in other curricular units of the study plan. Its syllabus includes the knowledge, selection and application of assessment methodologies and instruments, the critical integration of information obtained and the application of intervention models and techniques in swallowing.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

In order to meet the learning objectives focused on knowledge, understanding and application of techniques and instruments, lectures, demonstrations and simulated practice are used.
Exercises and practical demonstrations of swallowing assessment and intervention techniques allow students to assess their knowledge and application of the techniques.
