The contents facilitate the student to critically reflect on his performance, and to raise awareness about the need to tailor strategies in order to ensure the effectiveness of intervention and also to use his skills to respond to the identified health need

Teaching methodologies

The teaching / learning methodologies used in this course are student centered and account for the individual differences, with the main objective of emphasizing active learning and decision-making. The available hours enable the student enough time to establish the necessary contacts, assess the target population, develop the project and reflect on the learning process.
The tutorial program aims to facilitate the tailoring of projects and the development of the learning outcomes.
Discussion with peers and staff, activities undertaken with the target population, literature search, among others, are essential in the context of this course.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

The main objective of this 2nd semester course focuses on the development of students’ ability to implement a health promotion project in the community, while working in teams and in close collaboration with all the available resources, to evaluate them and to disseminate effectively the results.
Thus, the student shall conduct a situational assessment, identifying the needs, expectations and available resources and adapting the project previously elaborated in the Project I. Then he implements the project and evaluates it. These activities require evolving degrees of autonomy from the student and are carried out with the supervision and monitoring of a teacher of ESS, according to the thematic area of the project. Initiative, creativity, ability to adapt to the available resources, flexibility, ability to respond to the unforeseen and skills of interpersonal relationship and teamwork are core elements to be developed in this unit.
Finally the student prepares a report in article format, following the “guidelines for quality improvement reporting” and presents a paper to a jury of community personalities. This presentation happens at an open access event- Ciclo de Debates - organized in late June every year. Abstracts in Portuguese and English are published and available on the web. These strategies require the student's ability to synthesize the most relevant aspects of the project and to report them in the most effective manner, both orally and in writing
