Aims

The contents of the course are structured according to your goals, where you want the students to understand the problems associated with power networks, understand and establish the equations of Load Flo, and analyze the phenomena of short circuits in networks. The students implement the developed models in an computational environment.

1. Basic Principles.
1.1 Complex Power.
1.2 Voltage, Current and Power in Balanced Three-Phase Circuits.
1.3 Per-Unit Quantities
1.4 System Modeling: Generator, Transformer, Transmission Line, Load.
1.5 The One-Line Diagram. Impedance and Reactance Diagrams.

2. Power Flow Analysis.
2.1 The Gauss-Seidel Method.
2.2 Line Flows and Losses.
2.3 Tap Changing Transformer.
2.4 Capacitor Banks.
2.5 Network Calculation in the MatLab Environment.

3. Balanced and Unbalanced Fault.
3.1 Symmetrical Three-Phase Fault.
3.2 Systematic Fault Analysis Using Bus Impedance Matrix.
3.3 Fundamentals of Symmetrical Components.
3.4 Sequence Impedance.
3.5 Single Line-to-Ground Fault on a Power System.
3.6 Line-to-Line Fault on a Power System.

Method of Evaluation
The student have two options:
Option 1: (TE + LAB)
Two tests during the semester (average 10 values). Laboraty work (average 10 values).
Option 2: (EX + LAB).
The final written exam at the final of the semester (minimum of 10 values). Laboraty work (average 10 values).
Final grade
The final grade (NF) is given by:
1st option: NF = 0.70 TE + 0.30. LAB
2nd option: NF = 0.70 EX + 0.30 LAB
