Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

The fundamental objective of the Computer Networks Curricular Unit is the endowment of Students of basic knowledge in the area of Computer Networks.

The aspects covered go through the theoretical foundations, and the design, installation and maintenance of Local Computer Networks. In a final phase aspects are discussed to increase the security of the network

Syllabus

Concepts of Computer Networks
OSI and TCP / IP models
TCP / IP Networks and Ethernet Networks
Network Equipment
Wireless Local Area Networks
Virtual Local Networks
Structured Computer Networks Project
Security in Computer Networks

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

Theoretical and practical classes and laboratories.
Final project realization

Teaching methodologies

Distribution assessment with final exam

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

The minimum grade in the Theoretical Exam or the average of both tests is 9.5 (nine point five), (no test may have a mark lower than 8 points);
all other components have a minimum grade of 10 (ten) values

Assessment methodologies and evidences

The final grade will be obtained based on the formula
NF = 0.6 ET + 0.2 MTL + 0.2 PRJ
at where
- ET -Theoretical Exam or average of two tests
- MTL - Laboratory Lab Note Average and student performance
- PRJ - Final Project
