Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

The students should be able to: Understand and describe the main aspects of electrical systems, generation, transmission and distribution. Understand the schematic organization of the Portuguese Electrical System. Understand and made, all the electrical calculations associated with the transmission lines (long and short transmission lines). Understand and made all the electrical calculations of the low voltage feeders. Understand and deal with the load diagram in different voltage levels. Understand the classical systems of power generation namely: Thermal and Hydro generation. Understand the different types of turbines: Steam and Hydroturbines.

1.2- Structure of the Portuguese Electrical Industry.
1.3- Voltage structure of the Electrical Energy System. The transmission, subtransmission and distribution.

2 - The evolution of the Portuguese Transmission and distribution Networks (PTN).

3- Load Shape Development

3.1- Active and reactive power
3.2- Load Hapes Residential, Commercial and Industrial forms.
3.3- Load Shape terminology.
3.4- Substation load management

4. Low voltage feeders.

5 - The Power Transmission Line

5.1 - Introduction.
5.2 - Design considerations
5.3 - Line resistance and shunt condutance.
