Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)
Identify the motion of a rigid body in a plane.
Describe the movement of the rigid body with the equation of motion.
Determine forces and momentums for rigid bodies in motion.
Apply the equations of motion to the study of free vibration.
Know the main mechanisms that exist in machinery.
Analyse simple mechanisms, by analytical methods. Apply computational tool for simulated simple mechanisms.
Syllabus
1. Kinematics of rigid bodies.
Rigid body in translation and in rotation. Plane motion. Absolute and relative velocity. Instantaneous centre of rotation. Absolute and relative accelerations. Coriolis acceleration.
2. Kinetics of rigid bodies.
Kinetics of the rigid bodies in the plane. Equations of motion for a rigid body. Angular momentum in plane motion. D’Alembert’s principle. Constrained plane motion. Principle of work and energy for a rigid body. Work of a force or a couple. Kinetic energy in plane motion. Conservation of energy. Principle of impulse and momentum for a rigid body. Conservation of angular momentum. Impulsive motion. Eccentric impact.
3. Mechanical vibrations.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes
The classes are theoretical and practical.
After exposition, the contents of the lesson is illustrated through application examples and resolution of exercises.
In addition students carry out a work to familiarize themselves with the subjects taught, on the same topics discussed during classes.
