Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

This curricular unit (UC) is considered as fundamental for understanding the use of bicycles in different contexts and as a form of tourism, allowing students a thorough knowledge of the device, safety rules and application in different spaces.

Learning Objectives
1. Know the specific characteristics of the activity.
2. Know the characteristics of the contexts where the activity develops.
3. Identify and know how to handle the specific materials associated with the activity.
4. Know all the preservation care to have with the materials used in the activity.
5. Know and know how to apply all the safety rules inherent in the practice.
6. Identify and know how to execute the technical gestures in the scope of the activity.
7. Respect all practitioners and the environment.

Syllabus

Framework:
1. History and framework of the activity in Portugal and abroad;
2. Historical references to the development of the activity.

Characterization of the activity:
1. Materials;
2. The bicycle;
3. Individual protection material;
4. Complementary materials;
5. Elementary bicycle mechanics;
6. Organization of simplified activities.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

The curricular contents covered in this UC allow students to know the different specific approaches of the modality with reference to the practice and the associated technical gestures, allowing them to build an understanding of the concepts and the application in different environments and with a differentiated population, always respecting the environment and safety rules.

Teaching methodologies

The work of the UC is organized around:
- Lectures on theoretical and practical themes (i.e. contents of the program by the teacher)
- Practical classes of individual technique (bicycle domain), collective (group integration) and adaptation to the environment (nature / road),
- Analysis and preparation of documents (e.g. roadbook),
- Presentation of work done by the students.
Each student is expected to analyze and discuss the proposed assignments and execute the assessment products in close relation with the UC faculty.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes

The articulation between the classes of expository nature, the works carried out by the student and the tasks of a practical nature in the field, in order to allow students to understand the ways of acting in a pedagogical way in different contexts associated with cycling, favoring spaces for reflection on courses and guidelines in the development of the activity.

Assessment methodologies and evidences

The evaluation will focus on the work carried out throughout the CU and will contemplate individual and group work moments.
Continuous assessment includes the following elements and their weightings:
- Work done and presented in a group, in the context of the classroom - 25% - may be achieved in exam.
- Individual work carried out in the context of effective practice - 75% - in continuous evaluation.

Attendance system

Each student is expected to be at least 75% of the practical sessions and to analyze and discuss the proposed tasks and execute the assessment products in close relation with the UC teachers, except for students with special status (Article 24 of the RFA).
