Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

The Degree Course in Nursing (CLE) is composed of 240 ECTS, of which 120 ECTS are performed in a clinical context. Clinical teaching is the part of nursing training through which the nurse candidate learns, within a team and in direct contact with an individual, in good health or ill, or a community, to plan, dispense and evaluate global nursing care, based on the acquired knowledge and competences, learning not only how to work in a team, but also how to lead a team and organize global nursing care, including health education for individuals and small groups within a health institution or community" (as defined in Law no. 9/2009, 4th March, article 28, 5b). According to the Clinical Teaching Regulation (https://www.ess.ips.pt/files/Regulamento%20de%20EC_CLE_set19.pdf), "clinical teaching aims to ensure the achievement and development of clinical learning, anchored in theoretical teaching", thus the importance of continuity and articulation between the academic and clinical contexts is clear. At ESS-IPS, CLE has clinical teaching in all years of the course, carried out mostly in the area covered by ESS-IPS, in health institutions/units with a protocol with ESS/IPS. According to the Clinical Teaching Regulation mentioned above, "the supervision of students in clinical teaching is the responsibility of the teachers of the Nursing Department of ESS-IPS, with the collaboration of the supervising nurses", according to a pedagogical model of monitoring and supervision that promotes the student's progressive autonomy. Thus, it is considered necessary to deepen the profile of nurse supervisors' competencies, in articulation with the ESS-IPS teaching, in order to optimize the professional teams (teacher and nurse) who accompany students in their clinical learning throughout the course.
