Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

This Curricular Unit contributes to the understanding of telecommunications systems, including the
knowledge of the theory associated with the electric and magnetic fields, the design, implementation and
maintenance of communication systems involving different means of transmission and explanation of the
operating principles of circuits present in telecommunications systems.
It also allows developing skills in signal processing and interpretation of uncertainties
inherent in the processes of measurement of physical quantities.

Syllabus

1. The communication system, quadripoles and transmission units.
2. Systems analysis in time and frequency domain.
3. Ideal / non-ideal sampling, sampling theorem.
4. Basic aspects of propagation. Propagation in free space, in the presence of the earth and in the atmosphere.
5. Analog and digital modulation techniques.
inherent in the processes of measurement of physical quantities.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes

Presentation of concepts in the classroom, discussion and resolution of practical exercises.
Preparation and presentation of group work addressing specific topics of telecommunications chosen by students.
inherent in the processes of measurement of physical quantities.

Assessment methodologies and evidences

The written evaluation component (tests), AE, will have a weight of 50% and the group work, TG, a weight of 50%. The final grade (NF) will be given by the formula:

NF = 50% × AE + 50% × TG

To obtain approval students must obtain a mark higher than 10 values in the components AE and TG.

The minimum grade in each of the tests is 7 values.
inherent in the processes of measurement of physical quantities.
