Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)

The students with have knowledge about sensor networks, namely, architecture and protocols, typical applications, communication technologies and most used sensors and practice programming of network modules and implementation of different topologies.

Syllabus

Introduction and features applications, nodes and network architecture, emerging platforms and technologies.
Types of sensors and interfaces for collecting information.
Effect of energy consumption on the system: monitoring of consumption.
Networks and communication protocols used in sensor networks.
Processing and aggregation of information, coverage and location.

Teaching methodologies

Exposition of the fundamental theoretical concepts using slides.
Research work done by the students and their presentation.
Execution of laboratory work where students develop applications using devices of sensor networks.
Development of a group application project, where each group implements all constituent components of a sensor network.

Assessment methodologies and evidences

The UC evaluation has a theoretical (T) and a practical (P) component.

Normal :
1 Test (T), Individual Laboratory Work (TL) and Project (Proj).

NF = 0.2 * TL + 0.2 * T2 + 0.6 * Proj

Others:
Exam (Ex) and Project (Proj).

NF = 0.5 * Ex + 0.5 * Proj

Rules :
Test -> The average must be equal to or greater than 9 values.
Exam -> Minimum mark of 9 marks.
Project -> The Project has a minimum grade of 10 values.

NF = 0.1 * Ap + 0.2 * TL + 0.2 * T1 + 0.2 * T2 + 0.3 * Proj

Normal -> Classification from 0 to 20.
Others -> Classification from 0 to 14.
