Intended learning outcomes (Knowledges, skills and competencies to be developed by the students)
This optional curricular unit is based on a training proposal on the organization, programming, management and production of cultural events in the various artistic areas.
The theoretical-practical knowledge to be worked on is an instrument to support future socio-cultural animators, within the scope of event management and its implementation in the field.
- Understand the importance of cultural consumption for the formation of active and intervening citizens in the community(ies) and society of which they are part
- Integrate in socio-professional skills the appeal to cultural consumption and the formation of audiences for culture.
- Know social, cultural and/or artistic events of reference promoted locally, nationally and/or internationally and know how to characterize them, for example: the Illustration Festival, the Theater Festival, Coro Voz Setúbal (Jorge Salgueiro), Sonhos Exhibition , International Saxophone Festival, A Gráfica, A Fome , Andanças, Altitudes, a gastronomic fair, etc. exploring some could be a first group work, since “knowing” must precede “doing”).

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the UC intended learning outcomes
The themes are related to a conceptual and applied framework that aim to respond to the needs of all those who understand and value the role of the sociocultural animator in the design and production of events with a cultural nature. Thus, the proposed contents will allow students to know the main theories, concepts and methodologies inherent to the organization and production of cultural events, and to understand that its multifaceted nature entails a complexity of factors that are involved in its planning and management.
The syllabus will be transmitted in an essentially expository way, using audiovisual and/or imagery means in order to improve the process of transmitting theoretical content. It is also intended to recognize the questioning in the sense of creating habits of reflection on the contents that will be transmitted with the aim of creating moments of debate.
In this way, the sessions will be streamlined using:
• reading, discussion and analysis of texts and images;
• elaboration of written works;
• exposure of certain themes;
• preparation and presentation of works;
• design, organization and implementation of a cultural event project.
At the end of the work, the expected competencies are situated around the following domains:
(a) ability to organize and manage information, evidencing the appropriation and use of differentiated concepts linked to the production of cultural events;
(b) ability to support and interrelate the different concepts;
d) production of texts and images suitable for the events (eg publicity texts; exhibition room sheets; etc.);
e) ability to plan, produce and publicize a social, cultural and/or artistic event
f) Ability to evaluate an event a social, cultural and/or artistic event
Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's intended learning outcomes
The teaching methodologies focus on student activity, taking into account the student's training in this area, seen not only as the appropriation of basic concepts, but also the acquisition of tools for critical analysis of reality.
Theoretical-practical sessions will be based on the exposition and discussion of themes that show the construction of knowledge around the organization and production of cultural events. At the same time, an active participation of students will be promoted. These will be motivated to apply the skills acquired through practical activities, including the implementation of the event.
Assessment methodologies and evidences
The classification is expressed in values on a scale from 0 to 20 and is the result of the evaluation of the sessions taught by the two professors of the Curricular Unit.
Students who have special statutes must negotiate the assessment with the teacher of the discipline, according to what is stipulated in the frequency and assessment regulation, during the first 15 days of classes. Failure to comply with this negotiation within this period immediately sends the student to the final exam.
PROCESS (10%) - Individual
• Assiduity and a participative and committed attitude in the different tasks carried out in the classes;
• Ability to understand, analyze and reflect on the syllabus.
PRODUCT (70%) - Group
Student performance in group-developed products. The evaluation products will be as follows:
- Construction of a project for the design of a Cultural Event respecting the premises provided by the teachers - (10%);
- Graphic image and promotional products of the event (posters; social networks; etc) – (10%)
- Organization of the different activities that make up the cultural event (Exhibition) – (30%);
- Project implementation and evaluation - (20%).
